Altar Server
The institution into the Ministry of Acolyte is reserved only to lay men preparing for the Diaconate and the Priesthood. Lay men and women, boys and girls who serve in the capacity of an Instituted Acolyte are called Altar Servers.
Altar Servers should be mature enough to understand their responsibilities and to carry them out well and with appropriate reverence. They should have received First Holy Communion and be able to receive the Eucharist whenever they participate in the Sacred Liturgy. They assist the Pastor or other priest celebrant at all weekend and/or daily Masses and also on special occasions such as weddings and funerals.
Altar Servers help in preparing for Mass by lighting the sanctuary candles and placing the sacred vessels and books on the credence table. They carry the processional cross and candles, hold the books for the priest celebrant when he is not at the altar, carry the incense and censer when used, present the bread, wine, and water to the priest during the preparation of the gifts or assist him when he receives the gifts from the people, washes the hands of the priest, assist the priest celebrant and deacon as necessary. Servers respond to the prayers and dialogues of the priest along with the congregation. They also join in singing the hymns and other chants of the Liturgy.

Lay Readers (Proclaimers of Scripture)
When the Sacred Scriptures are read in the Church, God himself speaks to his people, and Christ, present in his Word, proclaims the Gospel. In the readings, the table of God’s Word is spread before the faithful, and the treasures of the Bible are opened to them.
According to the ancient tradition and the teaching of the Church, the readings other than the Gospel are proclaimed by Lectors or Lay ministers called Readers. Use of the term “Lector” is reserved for those individuals (men) officially installed as such by the Bishop and who are preparing for ordination to the Diaconate and/or Priesthood. “Readers” are those members of the laity who proclaim the Sacred Scriptures in the Liturgy.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
In every celebration of the Eucharist, there should be a sufficient number of ministers of Holy Communion so that it may be distributed in a reverent and orderly manner. Bishops, priests and deacons distribute Holy Communion in virtue of their office as ordinary ministers of the Body and Blood of the Lord. When the size of the congregation or the incapacity of the bishop, priest, or deacon requires it, the celebrant may be assisted by other bishops, priests, or deacons. If such ordinary ministers of Holy Communion are not present, “the priest may call upon extraordinary ministers to assist him, i.e., duly instituted acolytes or even other faithful who have been deputed for this purpose. In case of necessity, the priest may also depute suitable faithful for this single occasion (GIRM 162).”
All ministers of Holy Communion should show the greatest reverence for the Most Holy Eucharist by their demeanor, their attire, and the manner in which they handle the consecrated bread or wine.
If you are interested in this ministry, you must be a Catholic in good standing, having received all Sacraments and if married it must be sacramental through the church.

Ushers / Greeters
Being a welcoming community is very important to us. Ushers are the first face of the parish. They greet those coming into our church, offer assistance to those in need, distribute parish bulletins, protect the offering boxes, and distribute other materials as needed.
