The Sacrament of Baptism

Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the Gateway to life in the Spirit, and the Door which gives access to the other Sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the Sacrament of regeneration through water in the Word.

Requirements for Parents:
- Take the Baptism class.
- Provide a copy of the child’s Birth Certificate.
Requirements for Godparents:
1. Only (1) one Godparent is required. If there are two Godparents, (1) one must be male and (1) one must be female.
2. They must have received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation- Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation.
3. They must be currently practicing their Catholic faith.
4. If the Godparent is married, the wedding must have been in the Catholic Church.
5. If they are single, they must not be cohabitating (living together) with anyone as a married couple.
6. The Godparent must attend a Baptism preparation class. If they belong to another parish, they can take the class at their parish and get a Letter of Good Standing from their Pastor.
7. The Godparent is to pray daily for their godchild.
Once the requirements have been met, the Baptism can be scheduled. Baptisms are celebrated after the 5:00 pm Saturday Mass or after the 10:30 am Sunday Mass.
